The 2024 Premier’s Reading Challenge STEM has inspired the 3rd edition of ‘A Celebration of Science and Nature’ thanks to Adelaide National Park City to celebrate reading in the fields of Nature and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
Students were asked to draw, invent, or design in response to reading from a wide range of science, space, nature and renewable-energy themed books on the Premier’s Reading Challenge list.
This publication features the 12 winnings submissions and the 33 runners’ up from an extraordinary 4,500 entries from children in reception to year 6. This is an increase of over 1,000 entries from last year.
Project Lead of Adelaide National Park City, Sheryn Pitman, says it’s an honour for Adelaide National Park City supported by Green Adelaide and in partnership with the Department for Education to give young people creative opportunities to connect with nature through literature.
‘We were absolutely delighted by the number and the quality of entries that we received,’ said Dr. Pitman.
‘The next generation is so crucial to our future and to see so many already engaging with nature in such imaginative ways is really exciting’.
Dr. Pitman says educating future generations on the importance of connecting with nature is critical to Adelaide National Park City’s charter.
‘We are so lucky to live in a city such as Adelaide with easy access to nature. We have wonderful opportunities to really cherish and care for it, as well as inspire future generations to discover the beautiful intricacies of how our natural world works and supports us.’
